While aluminium and steel come to a hefty weight, carbon components and glass fibre components convince with surprising lightness at the same volume. Another bonus is the resilience of the components, which can be increased enormously through intelligent design and sensible fibre and resin selection before production. The resistance to sometimes aggressive chemicals also predestines the use of CFRP in the field of medical technology. The long service life of the components and the biocompatibility (compatibility between natural tissue and carbon) are further factors that now make the material indispensable for medical technology.

Since carbon fibre-reinforced plastic has good transmissivity (permeability), the material can also be installed in various medical equipment such as computer tomographs or in particle accelerators. Due to its low thermal expansion and magnetic neutrality, CFRP components can be used in surgery, radiology and numerous other areas without any adverse effects.
